If you are running ethanol in a Ford Ranger Raptor, this is the part that tells the truck what is actually in the tank. ESSIM, the Ethanol Sensor Signal Interface Module, reads ethanol content and fuel temperature in real time and hands that reading to the calibration through 0-5V analog, PWM or CAN, each configurable on its own and all usable together. Add a pressure sensor and it reports fuel pressure as well. The Bluetooth iOS app puts the same live numbers on your phone, which is genuinely useful the first time you fill somewhere new and want to know what you have before you lean on the throttle. The kit is cut for the 3.0 EcoBoost Ranger Raptor, pre-terminated, with the Continental sensor and the low pressure lines already sorted.
Ethanol strength is not consistent. It varies by supplier, by season and by whatever was in the tank before you topped up, and a Raptor mapped for one blend is exposed on another. Tuners usually solve that with a cautious map that assumes the worst fuel you might have. Live sensing removes the need for that caution: the calibration leans on the ethanol when it is there and pulls back when it is not.

The module works on any petrol engine, including vehicles with a factory ethanol sensor, and it reads at the engine rather than in the tank. That gives the calibration a faster, more relevant signal.
Ethanol sensing pays for itself once the fuel hardware can use it. On a Raptor that usually means the Goliath 1200-250 pump, or a matched pump and injector package such as the Ranger Raptor Stage 1 bundle.
That is what they are for. Analog, PWM and CAN can all be enabled at once, so your tuner picks whichever input their platform expects and the app keeps working alongside it.
