The Nostrum BMW B58 Gen 1 Stage 1 High Flow DI Injectors are the first real fuelling step for a tuned B58 that has outgrown its factory direct injectors. On a 340i, 440i, M240i or X3 on an aggressive map, the standard injector usually hits its limit first, and once duty cycle is pegged the calibration has to be pulled back. This set flows 35% more than the stock B58 Gen 1 injector, measured at 1169 cc/min at 100 bar, and carries a 240 bar maximum operating pressure. The injectors keep an OEM equivalent spray pattern, are ethanol compatible and go in without harness adapters or spacers, which makes them the sensible partner for an E30 or E50 blend on a standard turbo.
A standard injector is sized for a standard engine. Add boost, add ethanol, or add both, and it stays open for more of every cycle until there is no time left to put fuel in. Leaving the factory parts in means asking the map to work around that ceiling; a 35% larger injector gives the calibration somewhere to go at the top of the rev range.
Stage 1 is the right call for standard-turbo cars and moderate ethanol blends, and it holds the higher 240 bar rating of the two Nostrum B58 Gen 1 sets. For an upgraded turbo or a full E85 target, step up to the Stage 2 injectors. Either way the factory high pressure pump becomes the next restriction, which is why the matched Stage 1 Gauntlet bundle pairs this set with the pump kit.
These suit the Gen 1 B58 only; the Gen 2 engine runs a 350 bar fuel system and takes its own set. A supporting calibration is required, with Nostrum data for EcuTek, MHD and bootmod3. Yes. Larger injectors change the fuelling the ECU commands, so the car needs a calibration written around them. Nostrum supplies data for EcuTek, MHD and bootmod3.
They are ethanol compatible, and the 35% extra volume is what makes an E30 or E50 blend workable on a standard turbo. For full E85, look at Stage 2 and the Gauntlet pump.
Not always. On a standard-turbo car the injectors usually run out first, so many builds start here. Once rail pressure falls under load, the pump is the next part to address.
