ESSIM stands for Ethanol Sensor Signal Interface Module, and this is the complete BMW F-Series version of it: the module itself, a genuine Continental ethanol sensor on its mounting bracket, vehicle-specific wiring harness adapters for a plug-and-play install, and the instructions to put it together. Fitted, it gives you live ethanol content and fuel temperature, plus fuel pressure if you add a compatible sensor, and you can watch all of it on your phone through Nostrum's iOS app. Where a bare sensor only produces a signal, the module turns that signal into something a tuning platform or the factory ECU can actually work with.
The ESSIM takes its reading at the engine, which is what makes fuel temperature useful alongside ethanol content, and it publishes 0-5V analog, PWM and CAN outputs at the same time. Each output is configured individually and all three can run together, so a tuning platform, a dash and the factory ECU can all be fed without choosing between them. That flexibility is the practical difference between this and the plain F-Series ethanol sensor kit, which supplies the sensor and adapter lines but leaves the analyser to you.
Nostrum publishes this as a BMW F-Series kit without breaking out the individual chassis codes and years, so send us your exact model, year and engine and we will confirm the harness adapters before you order. The app side is iOS only, so an Apple device is needed for phone monitoring. Decide up front which output the tune will use, and add a fuel pressure sensor if you want that channel as well. It works alongside fuel hardware such as the N55 Gauntlet pump kit on ethanol-blend builds.

The sensor produces a raw frequency signal. The module reads it and republishes it as analog, PWM and CAN, which is what a tuning platform, dash or ECU needs, and it adds the phone monitoring.
Yes. All three outputs are configured individually and can run simultaneously, so feeding a dash and a tuning platform at once is fine.
No. Fuel pressure monitoring is supported but the sensor for it is bought separately.
