This is the sensing hardware half of a BMW flex fuel setup: an ethanol sensor pre-mounted on its bracket, plus the adapter lines that let it splice into the factory F-Series fuel line without cutting anything. Fit it and the car can be run on full E85, full super unleaded, or any blend of the two, because the sensor reads the actual ethanol percentage coming from the tank and reports it onwards. The one thing to be clear about before ordering is that Nostrum states plainly that this sensor on its own will not let you tune for flex fuel. It has to report to an ethanol content analyser, and that part is a separate purchase.
The two BMW kits look similar and are easy to confuse. This one is the sensor and lines only. The F-Series ESSIM kit is the complete package: it adds Nostrum's ESSIM module, the wiring harness adapters and the analog, PWM and CAN outputs that let the ECU or a tuning platform actually use the reading. Buy this kit if the analyser is already in place. Buy the ESSIM kit if you are starting from nothing.
Check your chassis code against the fitment table below, then decide which analyser the sensor will report to, because the choice affects how the reading reaches the ECU. Zeitronix's ECA-2 CANBus route is the one Nostrum names for feeding the factory ECU. Plan a mounting position where the sensor and its bracket sit clear of heat and moving parts, and remember the tune itself still has to be written around flex fuel.

No. Nostrum is explicit that the sensor alone will not allow flex fuel tuning. It needs an ethanol content analyser to read it, such as the Nostrum ESSIM, a Fuel-It Bluetooth unit or a Zeitronix ECA-2 CANBus.
No cutting is needed. The kit supplies adapter lines that connect the sensor into the factory F-Series fuel line.
This kit is the sensor and plumbing. The ESSIM kit adds the module, the harness adapters and the outputs, so it is a complete monitoring package rather than one component of one.
