A rough trail is a good place to enjoy your Tacoma, and a poor place to discover tired steering joints. Apex KIT400 replaces both front inner and outer tie rod assemblies with a heavier-duty design that is 33% larger than OE. You get a complete pair of pre-assembled links, forged steel joints and grease fittings you can service as part of looking after your truck.

The CNC-machined housings use SAE 1045 forged steel, with hot-forged SAE 4140 chromoly studs and metal-to-metal bearings. That gives you substantial construction throughout each assembly, with polished studs for smooth bearing movement. Rolled and stepped threads complete the connection, while the E-coat finish protects the exposed metal.
CR rubber accordion boots flex with steering movement and help keep road dirt away from the bearings. Grease channels distribute lubricant around the stud, and the included grease fittings let you maintain the joints. If a boot needs replacing later, the outer boot reference is XP151 and the inner boots are BEL400-L and BEL400-R.
KIT400 is suitable for lifts up to 3 in. Above 3 in, limit straps are required. It does not fit the Fabtech 6 in lift with Fabtech ductile iron knuckles. Other aftermarket knuckles and top-mount tie rod arrangements also need their compatibility checked; the standard-geometry application is the basis for this kit.
The assemblies arrive pre-assembled, but fitting still involves separating the inner and outer sections to install them on the steering rack. Have the work and wheel alignment completed properly, then inspect the boots and jam-nut torque at oil changes. Add grease only as needed: overfilling can damage the boots.
Our KIT215 upper ball joint pair covers the same 2005-2023 Tacoma 2WD/4WD application and contains two BJ137 front upper joints. If those joints also need replacement, you can order the pair alongside the steering links.
