The Podium CF is the only retrofit shell seat RECARO offers with both road approval and FIA homologation, in its lightest form. The carbon-fibre shell brings the complete seat down to around 7.3-7.4 kg with pads, and the visible weave is left exposed.

Comfort and adjustment

  • The M pads are approximately 20 mm thick and suit medium-build drivers; the L pads are approximately 10 mm thick and free up room for larger-build drivers.

Installation and compatibility

  • The sidemount is an accessory at additional cost and is not included; RECARO lists ABE and FIA sidemounts separately.
  • A vehicle-specific baseframe is also required for road use.
  • RECARO recommends temporarily removing the pad and pad pins when using a HANS system.
  • Pad Kits M and L in three cover options are listed as separate accessories.

Approval and safety

  • RECARO states that ABE (German general type approval) / component certification applies with a 3-point belt for many vehicles, and only in conjunction with a RECARO baseframe and sidemount.
  • FIA 8855-1999 homologation applies only in conjunction with the specified sidemount.
  • FIA homologation number CS.456.20 under FIA standard 8855-1999.
  • RECARO marks FIA 8855-1999 seats as Competition Seat with FIA homologation for 5 years.
  • No FIA approval if the seat is used with a side airbag.
  • The Podium carries the AGR seal and was the first racing shell to receive it.
  • A side airbag is listed as in development, so it is not an available option on this seat.
