The Classic Pole Position (ABE) is the period-trim version of RECARO's road-legal Pole Position racing shell, developed from the shell RECARO built for the Porsche 964 RS. It is a fixed-back GFRP shell in classic covers, aimed at historic sports cars and fast-road classics that want a genuine shell seat rather than a reclining seat.

Installation and compatibility

  • A steel sidemount is listed as an accessory at additional cost and is not included.
  • A vehicle-specific baseframe is also needed; the approval wording ties certification to a RECARO baseframe and sidemount.

Approval and safety

  • RECARO lists ABE / TUEV component certification for this seat, available with a 3-point belt for many vehicles, and only in conjunction with a RECARO baseframe and sidemount.
  • An ABE is available for many classic and more modern vehicles, and the seat can usually be included in the general type approval as an individual entry.
