The cam-driven high pressure pump fills the direct injection rail on an FA20DIT, and on a WRX or Forester XT that has picked up an intake, intercooler and a bit more boost it is usually the first thing to run out. Nostrum's replacement flows 37% more than the factory pump at up to 150 bar, arrives fully assembled and is flow tested before sale. The result is boost dialled in earlier without rail pressure collapsing, felt as low-end torque rather than a peak number. It is ethanol compatible, so E85 becomes a realistic fuel choice.
Being camshaft driven, this pump turns at half crank speed, so output is tied to engine speed. Around peak torque there is plenty of time per injection event but not enough volume behind it, and that is where the standard unit runs short once boost goes up. A 37% larger flow capacity gives the calibration room to bring boost in earlier and hold the fuel target while it does - a very different feeling on the road from a peak-power-only change.
Ethanol carries a higher effective octane and is less knock prone than 95 or 99 pump petrol, but needs materially more volume for the same air. Nostrum recommends full pump E85 over intermediate blends, because blends around E30 to E50 can drop gasoline additives out of solution and gum up any fuel system. If you do blend, occasional tanks of straight petrol are worth treating as maintenance.
Covers the 2015-2021 Subaru WRX and 2014-2018 Forester XT. Nostrum states the pump can be fitted and driven on without a tune, but recommends calibrating to use its full capacity, so plan the tuning as part of the job. The 725 whp gasoline and 550 whp E85 figures are fuel-system capacity for a fully supported build. For the top end as well as the mid range, add the matching upgraded direct injectors, or buy the two together as the FA20DIT Stage 1 bundle.

The pump addresses the mid range, where the limit is volume rather than time. Peak power is usually injector limited at high rpm, which is why the two are often bought together.
Nostrum recommends full pump E85 over intermediate blends. Around E30 to E50, additives can come out of solution and leave a residue in the fuel system. If you do blend, run straight petrol occasionally as maintenance.
