Between a WK1's axles run the gearbox and transfer case, low enough for rock crests and rutted centre lines to find them. Casing damage there does not buff out; it drains. This Almont plate bolts 11.5 kg of 8mm EN AW-5083 H111 duralumin under the WK1/WH transmission area, so the ground gets a wear surface and the four-wheel-drive hardware keeps its oil. It is the natural second stage after the front plate.
