Air Intake Systems

Air intake systems manage how clean, cool air reaches the engine across 4x4, touring, street, track and tuned performance builds. Start with the vehicle, the conditions it sees and the level of modification, then choose the airbox, pipework or snorkel route that supports the full intake path.

What does an air intake system do?

An air intake system controls the route that air takes before it reaches the engine. A good setup helps the engine breathe consistently, protects the filter from heat and dust, and gives supporting upgrades a cleaner foundation.

Airboxes house and protect the filter, helping isolate intake air from engine bay heat and debris. Airbox piping connects the airbox to the turbo, throttle body or intake tract, replacing restrictive or ageing factory routes. Snorkels raise the intake point on suitable 4x4 platforms so the vehicle can draw cleaner air away from dust, spray and low-mounted engine bay exposure.

Why is an air intake system important?

Poorly sealed, restrictive or heat-soaked intake parts can limit response, allow dust ingress, upset airflow readings and hold back supporting performance upgrades. The right intake setup is not just about induction noise or peak power; it protects the engine, keeps airflow predictable and suits how the vehicle is actually used.

For daily 4x4s, utes and performance vehicles, intake upgrades can improve drivability while keeping filtration and reliability under control. For tuned, turbocharged or hard-working builds, the intake path needs to support higher airflow without creating fitment, heat or sensor issues. For touring and off-road use, sealing, service access and raised intake positioning often matter more than outright flow.

How to choose based on your needs

Choose airboxes when you want a cleaner, more controlled intake foundation with better filter location, tidier engine bay routing and a dependable base for future upgrades.

Choose airbox piping when the factory pipework is restrictive, damaged, poorly routed or no longer suits the airbox, intercooler or tuning setup.

Choose snorkels for suitable 4x4 touring, dusty trails, wet conditions and off-road preparation where a higher, cleaner intake point is the priority.

Select the full intake route around confirmed vehicle fitment, engine bay layout, modification level and driving conditions. A street or track-focused build may prioritise airflow path, heat control and sensor compatibility, while touring and work vehicles should prioritise sealing, durability, dust management and service access.
