Choose the sound you want from your Mustang
Your 4.6 Mustang can have a different character depending on how you connect the two exhaust banks. This Kooks range gives you X-pipe and H-pipe choices for a matching long tube header setup, with catalyst and pipe-size combinations for the rear exhaust you want to run. The table separates the header inlet from the rear outlet so you can choose a system that joins up correctly.

X-pipe or H-pipe
An X-pipe brings the exhaust streams together through a crossover and tends towards a smoother, higher-pitched character. An H-pipe connects the banks with a balance tube and tends towards a deeper, more traditional muscle-car note. Your mufflers and catalysts still affect the result, so choose by the complete exhaust sound you prefer.
Match both ends of the pipe
The inlet must match the collector size of your Kooks headers. The 2-1/2" rear-outlet versions connect to the compatible OEM rear exhaust and reuse its clamps, which are not included. The full 3" rear-outlet option needs a matching 3" aftermarket rear exhaust. A 3" inlet with a 2-1/2" outlet is a reducer arrangement, not a full 3" exhaust.
Choose the catalyst for your engine
Performance Cats are for naturally aspirated engines below 550 RWHP. GREEN catalysts support naturally aspirated or forced-induction applications within their rating. Competition Only versions use catalyst-free pipes for competition, off-road and track use. The actual combinations below are the ones offered on this page.
Stainless construction and a matched connection
The pipes use mandrel-bent 16-gauge 304 stainless steel and ball-and-socket connections for compatible Kooks headers. The relevant pipe clamps are supplied, while the 2-1/2" OEM rear clamps are reused. We recommend professional fitting, correct support at the joints and a leak check after installation.
